Gaurav Bhatia Files Rs 2 Crore Defamation Case, Delhi HC to Hear Plea

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia has filed a Rs 2 crore defamation case against CJP leaders. The Delhi High Court will hear the matter on September 10 after a disputed post was deleted.

BJP national spokesperson and senior lawyer Gaurav Bhatia has approached the Delhi High Court seeking Rs 2 crore in damages in an alleged defamation case against Abhijit Dipke, founder of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP), and co-conveners Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka. The matter has now been listed for hearing on September 10.

Following the listing, Bhatia challenged Saurabh Das and others, saying, “Yachna nahi, ab ran hoga, jeevan-jay ya ki maran hoga” (No more appeals, now there will be a battle; it will be victory in life or death).

Bhatia wrote on X, “Yachna nahi, ab ran hoga, jeevan-jay ya ki maran hoga! The Rs 2 crore defamation case is listed for hearing tomorrow before the Hon’ble Delhi High Court. The era of lies and conspiracies is over; now there will only be an attack through facts, evidence and law. Be ready.”

Saurabh Das also replied to the post, saying, “How useless it is to tweet on this AI nonsense. Why is BJP sidelining him? I demand that he be given some work.”

The legal dispute follows a post shared by Saurabh Das in recent days that attributed certain remarks to Gaurav Bhatia, citing a media report. However, Bhatia had not made the remarks attributed to him. The post was fake and edited.

After Bhatia described the post as fake and said he would file a defamation case, Das deleted the post. Bhatia also sought an apology from him, but Das did not apologise. Bhatia subsequently approached the Delhi High Court.

Earlier, on Tuesday, Bhatia wrote in a post on X, “When allegations cross their limits, the law sets its limits.” He said that the truth would be tested in court on the basis of facts, evidence and the rule of law.

The case filed by Bhatia alleges that the conduct of CJP leaders on social media demonstrates a continuing tendency to target people by defaming them through posts. The petition states that respondents No. 1 and 2, Das and Ranka, “did not merely criticise, comment upon or disagree with any statement made by the plaintiff,” but instead falsely represented before the public that Bhatia had made statements that he had never made.

The case further states that CJP and its leaders repeatedly make comments that also undermine the dignity of the judiciary and the importance of its authority. With the Rs 2 crore defamation matter now listed before the Delhi High Court, the dispute over the alleged edited and false social media post has moved from an online confrontation to legal proceedings.
